Volunteer to Serve Dinner to Families at Ronald McDonald House

Date: Thursday, November 14, 2019

Time: 4:00pm – 8:00pm

Location: 2929 Children’s Way, San Diego, CA 92123

RSVP: SanDiegoWIF@gmail.com

Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego provides a “home-away-from-home” for families with children being treated for serious, often life-threatening conditions at local hospitals.  The Ronald McDonald House relies on community support. It is the only service of its kind that is open to families caring for children at any San Diego area hospital.

Families spend long days and nights at the hospital with their child. When they come back to their “home-away-from-home,” a hot nutritious meal gives these exhausted and overwhelmed families the chance to relax and connect with others before the next day starts.

Opportunity to Volunteer

The San Diego Women in Finance is volunteering to serve dinner to the families staying at Ronald McDonald House.  Duties include food prepping, dish washing, set up and greeting.  There are a limited number of volunteers needed.  Please bring a packaged dessert as a donation.  When you RSVP tell us what dessert you will bring (cookies, cakes, cupcakes, etc).  Everyone must arrive by  4pm to start cooking and you will be done 8pm once everything has been cleaned and put away, the floors have been swept, and the trash has been taken out.

As a reminder, Ronald McDonald house can partially validate ($4 for 4 hours) which is why they recommend carpooling if possible. Please park in the SOUTH (Visitor) structure as this is the parking structure that their Main House sits on top of.  Once everyone has parked they will need to take the elevator to the top level.  After exiting the elevator there will be a doorbell just to the left of two large glass doors.  One of our Front Desk Volunteers will buzz everyone in and ask them to sign in and get name tags.  As soon as individuals are done signing in they can head back to the kitchen where one or two of our culinary staff will be waiting to answer any questions anyone has.  I have also attached printable directions if anyone needs them.

Comfortable close toe shoes are a must, tank tops are not allowed, but short sleeve shirts are absolutely okay!  Long hair has to be tied up, and anyone with short hair will need to wear a baseball cap or we can provide them with a hairnet.  Please also advise everyone to remove any hand or wrist jewelry/watches besides wedding bands.
